![]() Tekken 4 is a game that feels both familiar yet also very different, especially if you skipped out on Tekken Tag Tournament as I had done back in the day. There are exceptions to this, of course, (depending on who you choose to play as in the all new story mode), but for most of the roster, the path to all their hopes and dreams is blocked by a ridiculously overpowered elderly man with a highly questionable haircut, just as it was in the very first Tekken game way back in 1994.Īs if Heichahi’s return as the closing boss isn’t enough of a blast from the past, his son Kazuya also makes his return to the series after his supposed death in Tekken 2 to really amp up the nostalgia. Whereas you had to close out the game by fighting the literal Devil and a giant, fire-breathing moth creature in Tekken 2 and 3, respectively, Tekken 4 takes the series back to its roots by making you go one-on-one with the feared patriarch of the Mishima family in the King of Iron Fist Tournament Final. Tekken 4 was the last game in the Tekken series to ground its finale in some semblance of sanity before things started to get really silly in the latter titles. “Is it possible for Heihachi Mishima to wear a nappy and still look intimidating?”Īfter morosely inspecting the imprint of a geta sandal in their forehead, most players of Tekken 4 will respond with a despondent yet resounding “yes”. Just when humanity had begun to start losing hope, Tekken 4 came along to answer the question once and for all. Great, powerful super computers were built in order to break the mystery down, yet they all came up empty handed. For years, no person had truly been able to sufficiently answer it. This maybe the reason why "Tekken Lord" was changed to " Tekken King" in Tekken 7 although its Japanese name remains the same. There was once a very important philosophical query that had challenged mankind for eons.In the Middle-Eastern versions of the game, the word god in the golden ranks is replaced with the word "Lord".As of Season 3 of Tekken 7, wooden ranks aren't being used anymore and new players start at 1st dan online. The Japanese names for the ranks in Tekken 7 have multiple themes, some of which can still be identified in the artwork behind the rank names."Tekken God Prime" and " Tekken God Omega" were added in Tekken 7, with the latter being added in Season 4."True Tekken God" was added in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.A new Tekken God rank is added in every installation afterwards.Ruler Ranks were added in Tekken 7 and are placed between Red and Blue ranks.(Brown, Silver, Light Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Purple, Gold) From Tekken 6 onwards, the color/division have stayed the same.In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, instead of Gold being the highest rank, it is called "Divine Fist" and it is White. In Tekken 5, the highest rank is called "Tekken Lord" which is Gold.If it goes over halfway, then players can keep playing in the style they are in beginner or advanced. The ranking bar is also helpful to players, telling them if they need to step up their game if the bar shrinks below halfway. This tells players how close they are to ranks, and this bar grows or shrinks depending on how many battles the player wins or loses in Treasure Battle and Online. Starting in Season 2, Tekken 7 offers a Rank Bar. From the 1st dan and higher, the player will obtain or lose more of these points if they were to fight against a player of a similar rank. ![]() The amount of wins and losses to reach a promotion or demotion match was based on an invisible points system. The player can always win a few battles to get promoted again. Whenever a player is about to lose their rank, winning a match with a demotion chance, keeps their rank the same, otherwise the player is demoted. Winning matches consecutively, is the most profound way to promoted. Tekken provides a variety of chances to the player to step up their ranks. ![]()
